Lowe's, a home improvement chain in the United States, will once again be closed on Easter Sunday in 2025 as a way to show appreciation for the chain's employees.

"Lowe’s stores will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 20th to show appreciation to Lowe’s associates for their dedication to serving our customers. This day off will give our associates the opportunity to spend some extra time with their loved ones," said a spokesperson with the company in a statement published in many media publications.

Lowe's operates 1,751 stores throughout the country. These stores will reopen as normal on Monday, April 21.

Other mega retailers will join Lowe's in closing their doors for Easter Sunday.

These include Target, Costco, Aldi, Sam's Club, and Macy's, among many others.

While it is common for large stores to be closed on Christmas, it is less so for Easter Sunday, at least in the United States.

In the United States Easter Sunday, unlike Christmas Day, is not a federal holiday.

Until recent years, many retailers would have business as usual on the day. Lowe's first began closing on Easter Sunday six years ago, and Target has been closed on Easter since at least 2017.

While Lowe's and Target will be closed, their competitor chains of Home Depot and Walmart, respectively, will be open.

This year, Christians of both East and West will celebrate Easter on the same day, April 20, as the calendars coincide in 2025.
