For just a few days, Audrey Assad is letting you listen to a demo recorded straight from her living room – a song called “Bruises.” You won’t find it on any of her records. Audrey wrote of the impromptu sharing of the demo: “Sometimes you just need to write songs and they serve no ‘purpose’ but catharsis. This is one of those.”

As you might guess by the title, “Bruises” touches on some deep wounds, but, as always, Assad’s angelic voice softens the heaviness. Read the lyrics above, and check out the song here on Soundcloud.

And don’t forget to check out Audrey’s upcoming Inheritance (Deluxe Edition), which includes reinterpretations of a number of the original hymns, featuring Cara Fox and Sarah Kroger. Stay tuned to Cecilia, for more on Audrey’s upcoming album.
