Pope Francis approved Friday the recognition of martyrdom of Bishop Pierre Claverie and 18 other religious, including the monks Tibirhine, the Holy See announced Saturday. These martyrs died in Algeria between 1994 and 1996, during the Civil War. This recognition opens the way for their beatification.
