These priests sacrificed their lives to save the souls of the wounded and dying.

Military chaplains are an essential part of any troop of soldiers going into battle. While they may not fire a weapon, their spiritual presence is vital, especially when the wounded and dying are more in need of a spiritual physician than a medical one.

During the past century there have been many heroic chaplains who went above and beyond their duty to lay down their lives for the flock entrusted to their care.

Here are four of these military chaplains, whose heroism is remarkable and can inspire us in our daily lives.
