The Catholic Church has always had a great love of philosophy. Since the very beginning the Church has mined the depths of philosophical thought, starting with the classical works of Plato and Aristotle, continuing on through the various philosophical schools that lead us to the present day.
The Church firmly believes that faith and reason — far from being in opposition — both lead us to God, who is Truth. For this reason some of the greatest saints of the Catholic Church were also scholarly philosophers. They dug deep into the essential questions of life and discovered God, who is the answer to them all.
Here is a small selection of saints who not only led a holy life, but also used their intellect to ponder the world that God has created.
